Main Street Introduces Director

BROWNSVILLE, TN / MARCH 1, 2023 - The Main Street Brownsville-Haywood County is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Orr as its new Main Street Director. In this role, Orr will be responsible for leading the revitalization and growth of Brownsville's downtown area.

Orr brings years of experience in community development and event planning to Main Street. Orr will finish his final year teaching for Haywood County School System and retire. In his years at HCSS, he has been instrumental in developing the Hatchie Half / 5K and the Tomcat Challenge. With a prior background in the non-profit sector, Orr's expertise in community engagement and partnerships will be a wonderful addition as Main Street works to strengthen relationships with local businesses, residents, and community partners.

"We are excited to have Tom join our team as the new Main Street Director," said Melinda Posey, board president. "We are at the edge of new growth in Brownsville as we expand and open our doors to Blue Oval. Main Street is there to develop our community’s potential alongside our city and county governments. More hands make the work light and we are grateful for Tom coming alongside us to help make our community grow."

As Main Street Director, Orr will oversee a variety of initiatives aimed at enhancing Brownsville's Main Street District and County area, including promoting local businesses, organizing community events, grant applications, and implementing streetscape improvements. Additionally, Orr will work closely with officials, business owners, and other partners to identify opportunities for growth and development.

The Main Street Brownsville-Haywood County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life for citizens of Haywood County by revitalizing the economy, enhancing the historical charm, and preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of Brownsville’s Main Street District. Through its programs and initiatives, the Main Street Association works to foster a thriving and vibrant downtown area that is
accessible to all.
